Johnston Tapped for GOTTI Biopic

Will direct John Travolta in the Gotti Sr. biopic.

THR has word that ‘Gotti,’ Hollywood’s long-in-development biopic of mob boss John Gotti Sr, has brought in veteran filmmaker Joe Johnston (‘Captain America: The First Avenger,’ ‘The Wolfman,’ ‘The Rocketeer’) to direct.

Set to star John Travolta as the famed Gambino crime family head, the film reveals the relationship of a father who lived and died by the mob code and a son who chose to leave that world behind and redeem himself.

Principal photography is set to commence in New York in September. Johnston will be directing from a screenplay by Leo Rossi, and revisions by Lem Dobbs. Anthony Hopkins and Kelly Preston are attached to co-star.

Fiore Films’ Marc Fiore and Radar Pictures’ Ted Field are producing with Thomas Devlin and Michael Froch. Mike Weber and Thomas E. van Dell of Radar Pictures will serve as executive producers alongside IM Global’s Stuart Ford and Jonathan Deckter, and Russ Faber and Randi Michel.
