Johnny Depp is reportedly in talks to reunite with his ‘Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides’ director Rob Marshall for a the musical adaptation ‘Into the Woods.’
Based on the 1980’s Broadway musical, the story revolves around a childless baker and his wife who attempt to lift a family curse by journeying into the woods to confront the witch that put the spell on them. Along the way, the couple encounters classic fairy tale characters like Rapunzel, Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, and ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’s’ Jack.
Variety adds that screen legend Meryl Streep is also in discussions to play the evil witch.
The screenplay for the adaptation comes from James Lapine, based on his book for the musical. Composer David Krane (‘Chicago,’ ‘Nine’) is working on the music.
