Joel Silver talks Wonder Woman

Producer Joel Silver has revealed that he wants the new Wonder Woman film to be a “genesis” story.

Silver, known for producing such films as  The Matrix, Lethal Weapon and the upcoming Speed Racer, admitted he had changed his mind about which direction to take the film. “I thought for a while that I didn’t want to do a genesis story of Wonder Woman,” Silver told reporters..

The producer added that he found the character’s back story “goofy” but was determined to find a way to make it work. “I’ve got to find a way to do it where it’s effective. I thought some of the stuff they did in 300 was great. I don’t know if I want to make it that way, but I think there’s a way to do this where the audience is going to accept it.”

The most recent Wonder Woman script, written by Matthew Jennison and Brent Strickland, took place in World War II. However, Silver admitted he wanted the film to be set in the modern day. “They wrote a good script, and I liked it. But I think that I don’t want to make that movie that way. I want it to be a contemporary story,” Silver said.
