JJ Abrams to direct Star Wars Episode VII

Boldly going where no man has gone before…

After weeks of shortlist rumours, and denials, it appears that J.J. Abrams has been confirmed to direct Star Wars: Episode VII. The man behind Fringe, Lost, Alias and the recent Star Trek reboot once said he would only be interested in ‘Star Wars‘ as a paying moviegoer has been courted by producer Kathlene Kennedy to produce the first episode of the highly anticipated trilogy.

Ever since Disney first announced the purchase of Lucasfilm and the rights to a new series of Star Wars movies rumours have understandably been swirling over who would be directing the franchise. Some popular names being mentioned were Ben Affleck, Brad Bird, David Yates, Matthew Vaughn and Zack Snyder (who may actually be directing a Star Wars spin-off movie for Disney).

This latest Star Wars news means that Abrams other film project, which involved a recent trip to Ireland to scout out a sewage treatment plant in Rinsend may never happen and throws his future involvement in the Star Trek franchise into question.

The road to Star Trek epsiode 7 is going to be very exciting, watch this space!
