Jared Leto Directing James Ellroy Thriller 77

‘Dallas Buyers Club’ Oscar-winner and 30 Seconds to Mars frontman Jared Leto is set to make his feature film directorial debut with ’77,’ a period cop thriller penned by David Matthews (‘Narcos’).

Based off an original screenplay by ‘LA Confidential’ scribe James Ellroy, the thriller is set in politically charged 1974 Los Angeles, and centres around two police officers who team up to recover kidnapped heiress Patty Hearst while simultaneously investigating the brutal murder of a fellow officer. They uncover not only relentless corruption and crime but a dark and violent conspiracy as well.

The project has Dick Wolf and Tony Ganz producing, alongside Leto and his Paradox Productions partner Emma Ludbrook. THR was unable to confirm if Leto would also star.

Leto, most recently seen as the Joker in ‘Suicide Squad,’ will next be seen in Denis Villeneuve’s ‘Blade Runner 2049,’ released in Irish cinemas October 6th.
