James Spader Cast as Ultron in AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON

Will play iconic comic book villain.

Marvel has announced that Emmy Award-winning actor James Spader (‘Secretary,’ ‘Stargate’) has been cast as the titular villain in Joss Whedon’s ‘Avengers Assemble’ sequel, ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron.’

Despite the title, the sequel is not based on the ‘Age of Ultron’ miniseries. “We’re doing our own version of the origin story for Ultron,” said Whedon. “In the origin story, there was Hank Pym (Ant-Man), so a lot of people assumed that he will be in the mix. He’s not. We’re basically taking the things from the comics for the movies that we need and can use. A lot of stuff has to fall by the wayside.”

In addition to Iron Man, Thor, Captain America, and Hulk, superheroes Quicksilver and Scarlett Witch will be joining the Avengers team for the sequel, with ‘Kick-Ass 2′ star Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Elizabeth Olsen (‘Oldboy’) rumoured to be playing the brother-sister team.

‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’ is scheduled for release May 2015.
