James Newton Howard Replacing Danny Elfman on THE HUNGER GAMES

Elfman out, Howard in.

It appears that scheduling conflicts have forced composer Danny Elfman to drop out of scoring Gary Ross’ highly anticipated ‘The Hunger Games.’

Stepping in to take his place will be the amazing James Newton Howard (‘The Dark Knight,’ ‘The Fugitive,’ Michael Clayton’). According to Variety, “the transition will be seamless and the post production schedule won’t be impacted.”

T-Bone Burnett (‘Crazy Heart,’ ‘Cold Mountain’), who was collaborating with Elfman on the score as well as serving as executive music producer, will continue his full involvement on the film.

Elfman is finishing up work on Barry Sonnenfeld’s ‘Men in Black III’ and Tim Burton’s ‘Dark Shadows.’ The composer is also set to provide the score for Sam Raimi’s ‘Oz: The Great and Powerful’ and Burton’s ‘Frankenweenie.’
