Jake Gyllenhaal Enlists For THE DIVISION Movie

A cinematic outing of the record-breaking Ubisoft title ‘Tom Clancy’s The Division’ is believed to in the works, with Jake Gyllenhaal (‘Southpaw,’ ‘Nightcrawler’) attached to star in the videogame adaptation.

The French game publisher’s fastest-selling product, ‘The Division’ is a third-person shooter is set in a dystopian New York City in the aftermath of a smallpox pandemic. The player, who is an agent of the Strategic Homeland Division, commonly referred to as simply “The Division,” is tasked with helping to rebuild the Division’s operations in Manhattan, investigating the nature of the outbreak and combating criminal activity in its wake. Released earlier this year for the Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC, the game took in $330 million dollars globally in its first week.

‘The Division’ marks Ubisoft’s third movie based on its titles. It currently has the Michael Fassbender-led ‘Assassin’s Creed’ in post-production, and ‘Splinter Cell’ starring Tom Hardy.

Variety adds that Gyllenhaal, who previously starred in Disney’s big screen outing of ‘Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time,’ will serve as producer on ‘The Division’ with his Nine Stories Productions partner Riva Marker.
