Maria Quinn’s directorial debut ’32A’ hit Irish cinemas Friday, we caught up with the Irish actress turned writer-director to talk Movies.
‘32A’, the debut feature from actor turned writer-director Marian Quinn, sees 13-year old Maeve hit a new milestone: her first bra. Distracted from her friends when she attracts the attention of heartthrob Brian, it’s a long fall back to earth when he ultimately dumps her. Becoming an adult doesn’t seem like such a great idea anymore, although Maeve is a little wiser for the experience by her 14th birthday. This bittersweet coming-of-age tale hits selected Irish cinemas (from August 15th). We caught up with the Irish writer-director Marian Quinn to talk movies.
Q: How often to you get to sit down and watch a movie?
3 or 4 times a week
Q: Tell us about the last movie you saw?
Wall-e in the cinema. My son was dying to see it but my daughter, who is 4, didn’t like it.
Q: What is your favourite Irish movie and why?
Darby O’Gill and the Little People . Priceless!
Q: What is your favourite movie of all time?
Currently, In The Mood For Love
Q: What movie could you never sit through again?
Shakespeare in Love.
Q: Describe your ideal movie cast… (actor, actress & director)
To be making a movie with directors like Billy Wilder, Ernst Lubitsch, and Howard Hawks.
Q: Have you ever cried during a movie? Which one?
Last time was Lars and the Real Girl . I was crying with laughter at the scene when he introduces Bianca to his brother and his wife.
Q: Favourite movie snack?
Popcorn and coke of course!
Q: Favourite TV programme?
The Wire. I am completely addicted. Can’t wait for series 5 on dvd. Truly great television.
