Irish audiences flock to A Christmas Carol

Ireland accounts for 17% of combined UK/Eire box-office

Normally Irish movies account for just 10% of business at the combined Irish & UK box office but A Christmas Carol enchanted Irish cinema goers this weekend, opening at number one in the country and accounting for 17% of the overall UK/Irish market.

The film opened in 2D and 3D around the country and knocked Michael Jackson from the number one slot. Takings from 3D screens amounted for 65% of the business. A Christmas Carol comes from director Robert Zemeckis and tells the classic tale of Ebenezer Scrooge.
