Irish at Cannes

Seventeen-year-old Ree Dolly sets out to track down her father, who put their house up for his bail bond and then disappeared. If she fails, Ree and her family will be turned out into the Ozark woods. Challenging her outlaw kin’s code of silence and risking her life, Ree hacks through the lies, evasions and threats offered up by her relatives and begins to piece together the truth.

More than 150 Irish film industry executives will be in the south of France this week for the Cannes Film Festival, which runs from tomorrow.

A number of Irish films will be screened at Cannes, including The Daisy Chain, starring Samantha Morton; The Escapist, starring Liam Cunningham; and A Film With Me In It, starring Dylan Moran.

Eden, by Offaly-born playwright Eugene O’Brien, will also feature at the festival. It was directed by Declan Recks and recently won the award for Best Actress (Eileen Walsh) at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York.

Cannes Film Festival runs until the 25th of May.
