Illumination Entertainment Developing CG-Animated THE CAT IN THE HAT

Seuss classic set for CG remake.

While Illumination Entertainment’s adaptation of the Dr. Seuss classic ‘The Lorax’ doesn’t hit Irish cinemas until July 27th, the animated feature has been taking the US box office by storm. Now it has been revealed that the ‘Despicable Me’ creators are planning to tackle another Seuss classic, ‘The Cat In The Hat.’

According to Deadline, the Universal-based animation house is developing a 3D CG-animated iteration of the story and has tapped screenwriter Rob Lieber to tackle the screenplay.

The children’s book, published in 1957, is considered to be the most famous story created by Theodor Seuss Geisel.

Mike Myers top-lined a live-action adaptation of ‘The Cat In The Hat’ back in 2003. Made for $109 million, the film grossed $101 million in the US and $133 million worldwide. The film was considered a big disappointment.
