IFTA Announces Date For 2009 Awards Ceremony

The Irish Film & Television Academy (IFTA) has announced that the 6th Annual Irish Film & Television Awards ceremony will take place on Saturday 14th February 2009 in Dublin’s Burlington Hotel.

The 2009 Awards ceremony will showcase Irish talent and achievement. Announcing details of the awards, Áine Moriarty, CEO of IFTA said: “2008 has been a good solid year of indigenous productions across both film and television; this is demonstrated with over 270 Irish titles submitted for consideration in the IFTA Awards.

“It is heartening to see a growing appetite by Irish audiences for Irish-made productions, and with the recently proposed improvements to Section 481 we can look forward to increased investment in the Irish film and television industry from international producers and filmmakers, which will in turn strengthen the pool of creative talent in Ireland.”

Viewing and voting is already underway by the Academy members and international jury and the short-listed nominees will be officially announced on January 8th 2009.

The Awards Ceremony will be broadcast live from the Burlington Hotel on RTÉ One at 9.30pm on Saturday 14th February.
