I AM LEGEND Sequel Moving Forward

Smith may return for sequel.

With a gross of $584 million worldwide, it was inevitable that Warner Bros. would want a sequel to Will Smith’s 2007 post-apocalyptic sci-fi ‘I Am Legend.’ Over the past few years there have even been rumours that the studio was looking to make a prequel.

Now it is being reported that Warner Bros. has closed deals with Akiva Goldsman and Overbrook Entertainment to produce a sequel, with plans for Smith to reprise his role as scientist Robert Neville, the last man on Earth after a man-made virus wiped out the majority of the world’s population.

Mike Fleming over at Deadline says that while Smith’s Overbrook Entertainment is producing, the star won’t commit to reprising his role until the Arash Amel-penned script is ready. There is no word on whether or not the first film’s director Francis Lawrence will be returning.

It is unclear how the storyline will continue considering the events of the first film.
