HUNTER KILLER Eyes McG

Submarine thriller eyes new director.

Variety is hearing that McG (‘This Means War,’ ‘Terminator Salvation,’ ‘Charlie’s Angels’) is in talks with Relativity Media to step behind the camera for the long-in-development submarine thriller ‘Hunter Killer.’

Originally planned as a directing vehicle for Antoine Fuqua (‘Brooklyn’s Finest,’ ‘Training Day’) with Gerard Butler lined up to star, the film is based on the novel ‘Firing Point’ by Don Keith and George Wallace, and follows an untested submarine captain who must work with a Navy SEAL team to rescue Russia’s president, taken prisoner during a military coup. The two sides team to stop a rogue Russian general from igniting World War III.

‘Hunter Killer’ is being produced by Neal Moritz and Toby Jaffe with the script coming from Jamie Moss, John Kolvenbach and Arne Schmidt.
