Hugh Laurie in Talks for ROBOCOP Villain

Remake has a surprising new addition.

The casting for José Padilha’s upcoming remake of ‘Robocop’ continues to impress. So far we have Joel Kinnaman (‘The Killing’) playing the title character; Gary Oldman (‘The Dark Knight’) as the scientist responsible for creating him, Samuel L. Jackson (‘Marvel’s Avengers Assemble’) as a patriotic media mogul and as we reported last week, Abbie Cornish (‘Sucker Punch’) in talks for the role of Kinnaman’s conflicted wife.

Now, in a great piece of casting, Variety is reporting that British actor Hugh Laurie (‘House’) has entered into negotiations to play the film’s villain. Laurie would be playing the villainous CEO of Omni Corp, which creates the titular crimefighter for its own gain.

A remake of Paul Verhoeven’s 1987 classic that starred Peter Weller, the sci-fi actioner centres on Alex Murphy, a decorated Detroit police officer who is brutally murdered and subsequently revived by the malevolent mega- corporation OCP as a super-human cyborg law enforcer known as ‘RoboCop.’
