Hugh Bonneville, Hayley Atwell & David Morrissey Attached to THE RETURN OF CAPTAIN NEMO

3D indie sequel lines up cast.

Hugh Bonneville (‘Downton Abbey’), Haley Atwell (‘Captain America: The First Avenger’) and David Morrissey (‘Welcome to the Punch,’ ‘Blitz’) are set to board the Nautilus for Pearry Teo’s ‘The Return of Captain Nemo,’ reports Deadline. The $10 million budgeted film is a 3D steampunk sequel to Richard Fleischer’s 1954 classic ‘20,000 Leagues Under The Sea.’

Bonneville is attached to play Nemo, with Atwell playing the heroine Sara, while Morrissey plays her uncle, the chief adviser to President Ulysses S Grant, who frees Nemo from prison to try and discover why mysterious “sea monsters” are sinking ships up and down the Atlantic Coast.

Hope is for ‘The Return of Captain Nemo’ to begin shooting in January. Like ‘300’ and ‘Sin City,’ the film will be shot entirely onstage using green screen and CGI.

Disney’s on-again, off-again remake of ‘20,000 Leagues Under The Sea’ with David Fincher is currently trying to downsize its $150 million budget.
