HOUSEBOUND Director Behind Techno-Horror-Thriller M3GAN

James Wan (‘Insidious,’ ‘Saw,’ ‘Death Sentence’) and producer Jason Blum have announced plans to reteam for a killer doll horror thriller titled ‘M3GAN.’

Per THR, the Akela Cooper-scripted feature tells of “a brilliant toy company roboticist who uses artificial intelligence to develop M3GAN, a life-like doll programmed to emotionally bond with her newly orphaned niece. But when the doll’s programming works too well, she becomes overprotective of her new friend…with terrifying results.”

Gerard Johnstone, the New Zealand filmmaker behind 2014s underappreciated horror comedy ‘Housebound,’ will take the director’s chair, with filming to get underway later this year.

“The concept is about embracing technology too much and relying too much on it,” said Wan. “And what happens with technology runs amok. It’s a commentary on the world we live in and it feels relevant.”

Michael Clear of Atomic Monster serves as executive producer, while Blumhouse’s Couper Samuelson will executive produce. Ryan Turek is overseeing development.
