Chinese filmmaker tapped for espionage thriller…

Mike Fleming over at Deadline is hearing that Zhang Yimou (‘The Flowers of War,’ ‘Raise The Red Lantern,’ ‘House of Flying Dragons,’ ‘Hero’) has come on board Universal’s long-developing Robert Ludlum adaptation ‘The Parsifal Mosaic.’

Ludlum novel, published in 1983, follows Michael Havelock, a veteran CIA operative who lands in the middle of an elaborate blackmail scheme after he spots his lover, a one-time agent who he thought was executed years ago.

Ron Howard, who was initially set to direct, will produce the adaptation with Imagine Entertainment partner Brian Grazer, alongside Captivate’s Jeffrey Weiner and Ben Smith.
