Coen Brothers cast Haile Steinfeld in True Grit
Hailee Steinfeld has been cast in the role of Mattie Rose in Joel and Ethan Coen’s True Grit.
Scheduled for a Christmas release, the Western drama stars Jeff Bridges, Matt Damon and Josh Brolin.
Based on Charles Portis’ novel, the script follows a 14-year-old girl who, along with an aging U.S. marshal and another lawman, tracks her father’s killer in hostile Indian territory. While the original film was a showcase for John Wayne, the Coens’ version will tell the tale from the girl’s point of view.
Filming is scheduled to begin next month in New Mexico.
