GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY Eyes Zoe Saldana for Gamora Role April 4, 2013 Actress circling female lead. THR has received word that ‘Star Trek’ and ‘Avatar’ star Zoe Saldana has entered into negotiations to join the cast of James Gunn and Marvel’s sci-fi action adventure ‘Guardians of the Galaxy.’ If the actress puts pen to paper, she would be playing the green-skinned humanoid Gamora aka “The Deadliest Woman In The Universe.” First appearing in ‘Strange Tales’ #180, Gamora is the sole survivor of her alien species who was saved by Thanos to be his assassin but now battles against him. Her powers include superhuman strength and agility and an accelerated healing factor. Saldana would be joining Chris Pratt, who is attached to play half-human, half-alien Peter Quill aka Star-Lord, and Dave Bautista, who was recently cast as Drax the Destroyer. Gunn is expected to begin shooting the blockbuster this June with release set an August 2014.
