GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY Casts Lee Pace as Villain

Actor being lined up for antagonist role.

While he may have lost out on the hero role of Peter Quill/Star-Lord in Marvel’s ‘Guardians Of The Galaxy’ to Chris Pratt, it appears that Lee Pace’s audition left an impression as TheWrap is hearing word that the ‘Pushing Daisies’ star is in final negotiations to join the sci-fi actioner as the villain.

Co-starring Zoe Saldana as Gamora, WWE star Dave Bautista as Drax the Destroyer, and Michael Rooker as Yondu, the James Gunn-directed film centres on Star-Lord, a U.S. pilot who ends up in space in the middle of a universal conflict and goes on the run with futuristic ex-cons who have something everyone want. As we learned yesterday, Ophelia Lovibond is also on board for an unknown supporting role.

Details on Pace’s character are being kept firmly under wraps, but internet speculation has him playing Basil Sandhurst a.k.a. The Controller, Thanos’ #1 henchman.

Pace, who was recently seen in Steven Spielberg’s historical drama ‘Lincoln,’ had a supporting role in ‘The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2,’ and plays the Elvenking Thranduil in Peter Jackson’s ‘The Hobbit’ trilogy.
