Greta Gerwig and Julie Delpy Cast in Todd Solondz’s Next WIENER DOG

Film will serve as a sequel-of-sorts to ‘Welcome to the Dollhouse.’

Writer-director Todd Solondz is in the process of putting together a sequel-of-sorts to his debut feature ‘Welcome to the Dollhouse,’ reports THR.

Starring Heather Matarazzo, the 1995 coming-of-age dark comedy was insightful look at Dawn Wiener, a bespectacled, toothy, and shy 11-and-a-half-year-old as she struggles to cope with un-attentive parents, snobbish classmates, a smart older brother, an attractive younger sister, and her own insecurities.

Solondz’s follow-up, titled ‘Wiener Dog,’ is described as “an ensemble indie featuring several stories of people who find their life inspired or changed by one particular dachshund, which seems to be spreading comfort and joy.”

One of the stories will centre on an adult version of Dawn, and according to the trade’s sources, indie darling Greta Gerwig (‘Frances Ha’) is close to landing that part. Julie Delpy (‘Before Midnight’) is also in talks for a role.

Megan Ellison’s Annapurna Pictures is on board to produce and finance, with Christine Vachon of Killer Films also producing.
