Gordon-Levitt and Rudd Frontrunners for ANT-MAN

Pair in the mix for anticipated superhero flick…

Variety has received word that Joseph Gordon-Levitt (‘Don Jon,’ ‘The Dark Knight Rises’) and Paul Rudd (‘Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues,’ ‘This is 40’) have emerged as the frontrunners to nab the title role in Marvel’s next big blockbuster, ‘Ant-Man.’

While the trade adds that there’s still the possibility of another name emerging, Gordon-Levitt and Rudd are the main contenders for the Edgar Wright-directed film, and will meet with Wright and the suits over at Marvel one more time before a decision is made.

Created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, ‘Ant-Man’ is the superhero alter ego of Dr. Henry ‘Hank’ Pym, a biophysicist and security operations centre expert who decides to become a superhero after discovering a chemical substance that allows the user to alter his size. Armed with a helmet that can control ants, Pym shrinks down to the size of an insect to become the mystery-solving Ant-Man. Wright co-wrote the script with Joe Cornish (‘Attack the Block,’ ‘The Adventures of Tintin’).

Marvel has ‘Ant-Man’ scheduled to arrive in cinemas July 2015.
