Gerard Barrett's GLASSLAND Selected for Sundance Film Festival

Irish film to have International Premiere at Sundance…

‘Pilgrim Hill’ writer-director Gerard Barrett’s latest offering, ‘Glassland,’ has been selected to screen in competition at the prestigious 2015 Sundance Film Festival, January 22nd – Feb 1st in Park City, Utah.

The film will screen as part of the World Cinema Dramatic Competition which screens twelve films from emerging filmmaking talents around the world.

‘Glassland’ tells the story of a young taxi driver on the fringes of the criminal underworld, who in an effort to save his mother from addiction and unite his broken family, is forced to take a job which will see him pushed further into its underbelly. Whatever he decides to do, his and his family’s lives will be changed forever.

Featuring a formidable cast including IFTA winner Jack Reynor (‘What Richard Did,’ ‘Transformers: Age of Extinction,’ ‘Macbeth’), Emmy, Golden Globe award winning and Oscar Nominated actress Toni Collette (‘Sixth Sense,’ ‘Little Miss Sunshine,’ ‘The Way, Way Back’), rising British star and the 2014 Bafta Rising Star Will Poulter (‘Son of Rambow,’ ‘We’re the Millers,’ ‘The Maze Runner’) and British Independent Film award winning Northern Irish actor Michael Smiley (‘A Field in England,’ ‘Kill List,’ ‘The World’s End’).

“It’s such an honour and privilege to take this film to Sundance. To be in competition at Sundance, really is something special,” said Barrett in a statement.

Speaking on the selection, producer Ed Guiney said he was “delighted to be bringing ‘Glassland’ to Sundance. I can’t think of a better place to launch Gerard’s brilliant film to the world. And Element are delighted to be returning to the festival as it marks our sixth film at Sundance since 2009 when we presented Liam Neeson in Five Minutes of Heaven, followed by The Guard in 2011, Shadow Dancer and This Must be the Place in 2012 and last year we held the world premiere of Lenny Abrahamson’s Frank there.”

‘Glassland’ is written and directed by Gerard Barrett and produced by Ed Guiney (‘Frank, What Richard Did,’ ‘The Guard’) and Juliette Bonass (‘Get up and Go,’ ‘A Date for Mad Mary’) for Element Pictures in association with Barrett’s NINE. The film is financed by the Irish Film Board and Element Pictures Distribution who will release the film in the UK and Ireland. Executive producers are Andrew Lowe and Gerard Barrett.

Irish Audiences will have the chance to see GLASSLAND when it goes on nationwide release on April 17th, 2015
