G.I. JOE: RETALIATION Pushed Back to 2013

Sequel has its release pushed back nine months.

Bad news for those looking forward to ’G.I. Joe: Retaliation,’ Paramount Pictures and Hasbro have announced that the action-packed sequel will now be released in 3D. The film, which was originally slated to open in US cinemas on June 29th and Irish cinemas on August 3rd, will now be released March 2013 to allow time for the conversion.

In a statement, Hasbro’s President and CEO Brian Goldner said, “It is increasingly evident that 3D resonates with movie-goers globally and together with Paramount, we made the decision to bring fans an even more immersive entertainment experience.”

Talking to Deadline, one studio exec said, “We’re going to do a conscientious 3D job because we’ve seen how it can better box office internationally. Jim Cameron did all of ‘Titanic’s 3D in post – and look how well that movie turned out.”

’G.I. Joe: Retaliation’ is directed by John Chu and stars Channing Tatum, Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, Adrianne Palicki, Ray Stevenson, Ray Park and Bruce Willis.
