Crime drama next in line for unnecessary remake.

Sony Pictures is teaming with Neal H. Moritz his Original Film partner Toby Jaffe for an English-language remake of the Oscar-nominated French hit ‘A Prophet.’

Directed by Jacques Audiard, and starring Tahar Rahim, the 2009 crime drama tells the story of a imprisoned young man’s rise after being mentored by an powerful crime boss.

“This is an epic crime saga with compelling characters and original storytelling,” said Moritz (‘R.I.P.D.,’ ‘Fast and Furious 6’). “I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to make an English language version of the film and I am grateful to have the trust of Jacques Audiard and his producers.”

Sony’s president of production Hannah Minghella added, “We think ‘A Prophet’ will translate perfectly for English-speaking audiences.”
