Actor first to be announced for micro-budget sequel…

Frank Grillo (‘Captain American: The Winter Soldier,’ ‘The Grey’) has scored the lead in writer/director James DeMonaco’s ‘The Purge 2,’ according to Deadline.

The film, as the title suggests, is a sequel to this summer’s micro-budget horror-thriller, which starred Ethan Hawke as a security system designer protecting his family from home invasion during the Purge, a 12-hour period in which any and all crime is legalized. Lena Headey, Adelaide Kane, and Rhys Wakefield co-starred.

Plot details for the second film are being kept under wraps.

DeMonaco direct the first film, which grossed roughly $90M worldwide on a $3M budget. The sequel will be produced by Jason Blum, Sébastien K. Lemercier of Blumhouse Productions alongside Michael Bay and his Platinum Dunes partners Brad Fuller and Andrew Form
