‘Skyline’ spin-off begins casting…
‘Captain America: The Winter Solider’ and ‘The Purge: Anarchy’ star Frank Grillo and Indonesian action star Iko Uwais (‘The Raid,’ ‘Man of Tai Chi’) are set to co-star in ‘Beyond Skyline.’ a spin-off to the 2010 alien invasion flick, ‘Skyline.’
Liam O’Donnell, who penned the first film, will make his directorial debut with ‘Beyond Skyline.’ The sci-fi is being developed as a standalone film and will see Grillo playing “a detective who fights to free his son from a terrifying alien warship.”
Uwais will play the leader of an underground resistance that forms after the aliens touch down on earth. His co-star from the ‘The Raid’ films, Yayan Ruhian, is on board for a supporting role, with the pair also serving as fight choreographers on the film.
Production kicks off in December. Visual effects house Hydraulx Entertainment (‘Avengers Assemble,’ ‘Snow White and the Huntsman,’ ‘Captain America’) and Infinite Studios are financing.
“I’m excited to create something fresh and visually stunning with this film,” Grillo told Variety. “Hydraulx is unrivalled at what they do and Liam has assembled a great cast and intense script.”
