Franco Exits GARDEN OF LAST DAYS

Polymath walks from adaptation.

Deadline is reporting that that James Franco (‘As I Lay Dying,’ ‘This is the End’) has pulled out of the film adaptation of Andre Dubus III’s bestselling 2008 novel ‘Garden Of Last Days’ two weeks before the film was scheduled to begin principal photography.

Set in a Florida strip club, the tale explores the interweaving stories of several individuals: a stripper out of options who brings her 3-year-old daughter to work; an angry, lonely man who is thrown out of the club; and a foreigner with an endless supply of cash on the brink of committing a terrifying act.

Franco, who was attached to direct and star, is said to have walked due to “creative disagreements” with financier Millennium Entertainment. According to Deadline’s sources, the $3 million project has been shut down and won’t proceed. ‘Game of Thrones’ star Emilia Clarke recently signed on to co-star.

Screenwriter Hanna Weg (‘Enigma’) adapted the script and was to produce along with Gerard Butler, Danielle Robinson, Miles Levy, Vince Jolivette, Alan Siegel.
