FLATLINERS Remake Lands Writer

‘Flatliners’ gets revived.

Heat Vision reports that Sony Pictures has hired ‘Source Code’ scribe Ben Ripley to pen the screenplay for the studio’s remake of Joel Schumacher’s 1990 supernatural thriller ‘Flatliners.’

The original, penned by Peter Filardi and starring Kiefer Sutherland, Julia Roberts, William Baldwin, Kevin Bacon and Oliver Platt, centered on five medical students who subject themselves to near-death experiences in order to see if anything lies beyond the big sleep. The members of the group then are revisited by physical manifestations of childhood sins are not sure if what they are facing is real or hallucination.

The remake will be produced by Laurence Mark, a veteran producer whose recent credits include ‘Julie & Julia’ and ‘The Lookout.’
