See Matt Lucas as Tweedledum & Tweedledee, Johnny Depp as The Mad Hatter and Helena Bonham Carter as The Red Queen

The folk at Disney have sent us a wonderful collection of concept artwork from Tim Burton's new adaptation of Alice In Wonderland. Below we have our very first look at Johnny Depp as The Mad Hatter, Helena Bonham Carter as The Red Queen and Matt Lucas as Tweedledee / Tweedledum.

Other members of the cast include Anne Hathaway as The White Queen, Stephen Fry as The Cheshire Cat, Christopher Lee as the Jabberwock, Crispin Glover as The Knave of Hearts and Alan Rickman as the Caterpillar.

USA Today reports today that the movie is more of a sequel to Lewis Carrol's 1865 story, The Red Queen and The Tweedles come from the 1871 sequel 'Through The Looking Glass'. The story takes pace ten years after Alice's first visit to Wonderland, of which she has no recollection. Now 17, Alice mixes in high society circles and on the day of a wedding proposal she finds herself back in Wonderland, a place where she visited a decade prior.

The movie finished a 40 day shoot in December 2008, FX shots and post production will continue during 2009 and the film will open in Irish cinemas on March 12th 2010.

Excellent, love the slight turn in the Hatter's eye. Most of all, loving the fact you have the Tweedledee/Tweedledum photo, none of the other sites have it.

Wow, very impressive.  Love the Queen of Hearts pic.

.... What the hell is this? It looks like provisional artwork for a 90's PC game.

Yeah reminds me of that game too. Great creepy soundtrack too. Would like to see the Burton characters in motion before I go yay or nay.

First time I saw Lucas as George Dawes in Shooting Stars I knew he should be in Alice in Wonderland.
I hope one of them sounds like Vickie Pollard

Now THIS is how it should be, well done movies.ie on getting the exclusive before the other sites.

I'm kind of getting sick of seeing Helena and Johnny in 99.99% of Burton's movies. I know they are well suited to most of his stuff but still.

    The characters look amazing.
