FAR FROM THE MADDING CROWD Adaptation Eyes Schoenaerts and Goode

Actors would be joining Carey Mulligan on the cast.

Baz Bamigboye over at The Daily Mail has learned that writer/director Thomas Vinterberg (‘The Hunt’) has offered Belgian actor Matthias Schoenaerts (‘Rust & Bone’) has been offered one of the three male leads opposite Carey Mulligan (‘The Great Gatsby’) in the Danish filmmaker’s upcoming feature adaptation of ‘Far From The Madding Crowd.’

Adapted from the classic novel of the same name by English novelist and poet Thomas Hardy, ‘Far From The Madding Crowd’ tells the tale of the beautiful and spirited Bathsheba Everdene and her three suitors.

Bamigboye is hearing that Schoenaerts is line for the Gabriel Oak, a shepherd; while ‘Stoker’ and ‘Watchmen’ star Matthew Goode is being eyed for the role of dashing soldier Sergeant Francis “Frank” Troy. The third male lead, farm owner William Boldwood, has yet to be cast.

Vinterberg is believed to be eyeing a July start for principal photography with Allon Reich and Andrew Macdonald producing.

DNA Films, Fox Searchlight and BBC Films are backing the adaptation.
