It’s been a bad day for Driver (Gibson) and it’s not getting any better. He just made a big haul of millions that would give him a nice summer vacation on easy street. A good idea that went south – literally. During a high-speed car chase with the US Border Patrol, and a bleeding body in his back seat, Driver flips his car smashing through the border wall, tumbling violently, coming to a stop … in Mexico. Apprehended by the Mexican authorities, he is sent to a hard-core prison where he enters the strange and dangerous world of “El Pueblito”, the worst prison in all of Mexico. Not an easy place for an outsider such as Driver to survive, unless it’s with the help of someone who knows the ropes - a 10 year-old kid.

East is East writer Ayub Khan-Din returns with another funny, tender-hearted portrait of family strife. Based on his popular play Rafta, Rafta (itself inspired by Bill Naughtons 1960s classic All in Good Time), the film is set in Bolton where Atul and Vina are celebrating their marriage. However, a honeymoon spent with his parents was not part of their plans. Thoughtless patriarch Eeshwar seems determined to emasculate and embarrass his son. As the weeks pass, consummating their union becomes an impossibility that threatens the couples entire future. A breezy mixture of heartbreak and hilarity, All in Good Time also offers peerless performances from original stage stars Harish Patel and Meera Syal.

Starring Catherine Deneuve and (her real-life daughter) Chiara Mastroianni, this sly and exquisitely romantic musical drama from Christophe Honoré (Love Songs, Dans Paris) spans over three decades as it follows a mother and daughter's misadventures in love. In the ‘60s, Madeleine (Ludivine Sagnier) leaves Paris to re-join her Czech husband Jaromil (Rasha Bukvic) in Prague, but his infidelities and the arrival of Russian tanks in the city lead her back to France. Thirty years later we follow the romance of Madeleine’s daughter, Vera, who falls in love with a musician (Paul Scneider) in London who is incapable of devoting himself to her. Meanwhile in Paris, a re-married Madeleine (Deneuve) has rekindled her love affair with Jaromil (Milos Forman). Louis Garrel and Paul Schneider also star in this light-hearted but ultimately moving exploration of the changing nature of relationships, with music by Alex Beaupain (Love Songs). An elegy to femininity and passion with musical outbursts.

At a weekend hotel conference, three comfortable couples, bonded by blood, marriage and friendship know each other so well they can offend without any offense taken and forgive without any forgiveness given. Their natural leader is the irrepressible Charlie, an erudite, apparently harmless, fast-talking egotist, whose smoke and mirror monologues conceal a prejudiced, over-educated sociopath who refuses to be bound by the restrictions of morality, law, or even reality. Charlie has it all, the perfect wife, the property portfolio and the loyalty of his friends. The fact that Charlie needs Viagra to have sex with his wife, is losing his portfolio, and has seduced his best friend’s wife, means nothing to him, because, having killed that working class girl, Charlie is living on dangerously borrowed time; and, as lies become truth, and reality becomes fantasy, this sickeningly compelling anti-hero embroils the three couples in his sanctimonious excesses and Pied Piper prejudices. With Faust, Alexander Sokurov completes his cinematic tetralogy based on the lives of historical figures, which began with studies of Adolf Hitler (Moloch, 1999), Vladimir Lenin (Taurus, 2000) and Emperor Hirohito (The Sun, 2005). His new film delves deeper into the nature of power with a unique take on Goethe's classic tale. The winner of the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival in 2011, Sokurov's interpretation of the myth is not an adaptation in the usual sense, but what he describes as a 'reading of what remains between the lines'. Here Faust is a thinker, a mouthpiece for ideas, a transmitter for words, a schemer and a daydreamer. He is an anonymous man driven by simple instincts: hunger, greed and lust. Sokurov asks us to question how this literary character informs our understanding of the real tyrants who abused their position of power, and how an unhappy life can lead some to be seduced by monstrous ideologies.
