Dreamworks Dragon Delayed

With the world now aware of his dual life as the armored superhero Iron Man, billionaire inventor Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) faces pressure from the government, the press, and the public to share his technology with the military. Unwilling to let go of his invention, Stark, along with Pepper Potts (Gwyneth Paltrow), and James “Rhodey” Rhodes (Don Cheadle) at his side, must forge new alliances — and confront powerful enemies.

Dreamworks have pushed back the release of one of their tentpole films for 2009. ‘How to Train Your Dragon’ was due out November 09 however the studio has decided to concede the release date to other 3-D films due out at the same time, including Robert Zemeckis’ ‘A Christmas Carol’ and James Cameron’s ‘Avatar’. Dreamworks CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg, speaking of the decision, said,  ‘The combination of a jam-up domestically and the very limted 3-D capacity just didn’t make sense. There will not be anywhere near the number of screens needed to accomodate two releases internationally’. It remains to be seen how the decision by studios, such as Fox and Dreamworks who plan to release all their animated features with the 3-D option from ’09, will impact the Irish cinema industry.

‘How to Train Your Dragon’  is expeced in cinemas March 26, 2010.
