Actress nabs the coveted role.

British actress Lily James (‘Downton Abbey,’ ‘Fast Girls,’ ‘Broken,’ ‘Wrath of the Titans’) has been announced as the titular character in Disney’s live-action interpretation of the beloved ‘Cinderella’ fairy tale.

To be directed by Kenneth Branagh from a screenplay by Aline Brosh McKenna (‘The Devil Wears Prada’) and Chris Weitz (‘A Better Life,’ ‘The Golden Compass’), the re-imaging follows a prince who is set for “a politically arranged marriage, until the plan is threatened when the prince meets Cinderella.”

Cate Blanchett remains attached to play Cinderella’s iconic evil stepmother. Additional announcements regarding the project are expected in the coming weeks.
