19-year-old British actor Douglas Booth (‘Worried About the Boy’) has landed the coveted male lead opposite Hailee Steinfeld (‘True Grit’) in Carlo Carlei’s ‘Romeo and Juliet.’ According to Variety the actor beat out 300 other hopefuls for the role.
The adaptation also has Holly Hunter, Kodi Smit-McPhee (‘Let Me In’) and Ed Westwick (‘Gossip Girl’) attached to star. Hunter will play Juliet’s Nurse, while McPhee and Westwick are to play the two lovers’ cousins, Tybalt and Benvolio, respectively. The role of Mercutio has yet to be cast.
Production is set to being in the summer in Italy with a script by Julian Fellowes (‘Gosford Park’).
