Domhnall Gleeson Joins Angelina Jolie

Irish actor boards the fact-based drama.

Domhnall Gleeson (‘Anna Karenina,’ ‘Dredd’) has landed a role alongside Jack O’Connell (‘300: Rise of an Empire,’ ‘Skins’) in the Angelina Jolie-directed WWII drama ‘Unbroken.

Adapted from Laura Hillenbrand’s bestselling book, the story follows the Olympian-turned-POW, Louis Zamperini, who survived a plane crash during the war and survived on a raft in the hot sun for 47 days, battling hunger, thirst and sharks.

Dublin-native Gleeson will be portraying Russell Allen “Phil” Phillips, who was also on the raft. Up-and-coming American actor Finn Wittrock (‘The Masters of Sex,’ ‘The Normal Heart’) is in talks for the role of Zamperini’s fellow airman Francis “Mac” McNamara.

Jolie is expected to begin shooting ‘Unbroken’ in Australia in October.

Gleeson will next be seen starring opposite Rachel McAdams and Bill Nighy in Richard Curtis’s sci-fi tinged romantic dramedy ‘About Time’ when it hits Irish cinemas September 6th.
