Matt Smith to lead West End adaptation…
Baz Bamigboye over at The Daily Mail is hearing that ‘Doctor Who’ star Matt Smith is set to tackle a Wes End stage musical adaptation of Bret Easton Ellis’ controversial 1991 novel ‘American Psycho.’
30-year-old Smith, who bows out as the eleventh Time Lord in the Doctor Who Christmas special this December, will be taking on the role of Patrick Bateman, the psychopathic serial killer played by Christian Bale in Mary Harron’s 2000 film adaptation.
Rehearsals kicked off this week with the musical set to run from December 3rd to January 25th 2014 at London’s Almeida Theatre. The Theatre’s Artistic Director, Rupert Goold, will direct the adaptation from a production book by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa (‘Spider Man: Turn Off The Dark’) with music and lyrics by Duncan Sheik (‘Spring Awakening’).
The production features a supporting cast of UK talent that includes Ben Aldridge, Charlie Anson, Jonathan Bailey, Katie Brayben, Cassandra Compton, Holly Dale Spencer, Susannah Fielding, Simon Gregor, Holly James, Lucie Jones, Tom Kay, Gillian Kirkpatrick, Eugene McCoy and Hugh Skinner.
