DESPICABLE ME 2 Replaces Al Pacino with Benjamin Bratt

Pacino exits the animated sequel.

Deadline has learned that Universal Pictures and Illumination Entertainment have tapped Benjamin Bratt to provide the voice for the villain in ‘Despicable Me 2.’ Bratt replaces Al Pacino, who recently left the project over creative differences with the studio.

A sequel to 2010’s hit animated comedy directed by Pierre Coffin and Chris Renaud, ‘Despicable Me 2’ follows the lovable megalomaniac anti-hero Gru (voiced by Steve Carell) as he is recruited by the Anti-Villain League to help deal with a powerful new super criminal.

Set to open in Irish cinemas June 28th, the animated comedy will also feature the voices of Kristen Wiig, Ken Jeong, Miranda Cosgrove, Russell Brand, Steve Coogan, Elsie Fisher, Dana Gaier, and Moises Arias.
