Guillermo del Toro Producing Stop-Motion ‘Pinocchio’
Guillermo del Toro has revealed that he is developing a dark update of the Pinocchio fairy tale.
The director is teaming up with the Jim Henson Company to make a stop-motion version of the story, which was animated by Walt Disney in 1940.
A screenplay is currently being penned by del Toro alongside Gris Grimley, who produced his own take on the tale in 2002.
“Everybody loves [Grimley’s] book about it. The original story is far more perverse and spooky and [has a] semi-necrophilia vibe to it in certain aspects. Gris certainly has that vein in him, he wants to do this with that original spookiness in it. We are trying to get it going,” del Toro told reporters.
