‘Galaxy Quest’ director hired for action sequel.
Variety reports that Dean Parisot (‘Fun with Dick and Jane,’ ‘Galaxy Quest’) is in final negotiations to take the director’s chair for a sequel to 2010’s action ensemble ‘Red.’
Starring Bruce Willis, Morgan Freeman, John Malkovich and Helen Mirren, the Robert Schwentke-directed original was based on Based on Warren Ellis and Cully Hammer’s graphic novel. It followed Frank, Joe, Marvin, and Victoria, four retired and extremely dangerous special op agents, who are forced out of retirement to flush out an assassin.
According to the trade, Willis has yet to work out his schedule, while other members of the ensemble cast are awaiting deals. The sequel will be penned by Erich and Jon Hoeber, who wrote the script for the first film.
