Deadpool breaks down the fourth wall!
Ryan Reynolds has promised that he will be breaking the fourth wall when he takes on the starring role in X-Men spin-off Deadpool movie.
The term originates in the theatre as the imaginary wall between actor and audience. Marvel’s Deadpool character is known for regularly breaking the fourth wall and acknowledging his role as a character in a story.
Speaking about the film, Reynolds said “Break the fourth wall? Oh yeah, he’s got to,” the actor answered. “I want to see him break the Great Wall.”
Reynolds added that he is working with studio Fox to make sure the film stays true to the comic — and the fans.
“I’m one of them,” he says of satisfying the character’s fanbase. “I’ve always been a fan, at least for the last eight or nine years. I feel a bit of validation because I knew going into Wolverine that there’s a huge fanbase for this and I don’t think anyone else did.”
