Will the former Doctor Who go to Middle Earth?

David Tennant is up for the role of Thranduil the Elvenking in the Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit.

Movieweb report that the former Doctor Who star is in talks to join Martin Freeman, Andy Serkis, Cate Blanchett, Elijah Wood and Ian McKellen in the Lord of the Rings prequel project.

Thranduil is the father of The Lord of the Rings character Legolas played by Orlando Bloom.

Part one of The Hobbit will open in cinemas in December 2012.
