David Oyelowo and MOONLIGHT Scribe Developing CYRANO THE MOOR

‘Moonlight’ writer Tarell Alvin McCraney is teaming up with David Oyelowo (‘Selma,’ ‘Chaos Walking’) and Walt Disney Pictures for ‘Cyrano The Moor,’ a live-action musical that will take inspiration from both ‘Othello’ and ‘Cyrano de Bergerac.’

According to Deadline, the musical will take place in the Bristol region of England during the 19th century, and the plan is to make it as lavish a show as Disney classics ‘Cinderella’ and ‘Beauty and the Beast.’

William Shakespeare’s ‘Othello’ is a tale of doubt and revenge focusing on a Moorish general who is tricked into murdering his wife, and Edmond Rostand’s classic French play ‘Cyrano de Bergerac’ is a comedy about a man of many talents who has a very large nose, which causes him to doubt himself.

Oyelowo will also produce the project, alongside his wife and producing partner Jessica Oyelowo and Yoruba Saxon (‘A United Kingdom’). Tendo Nagenda and Chaz Salembier will oversee development for the studio.
