Dan Trachtenberg to Direct Y THE LAST MAN

Helmer hired for long in development adaptation.

Deadline has word that commercials director Dan Trachtenberg has been tapped by New Line Cinema to tackle a feature adaptation of Brian K. Vaughan and Pia Guerra’s critically acclaimed graphic novel ‘Y The Last Man.’

‘Y The Last Man’ tells the gripping saga of Yorick Brown—the only human survivor of a planet-wide plague that instantly kills every mammal possessing a Y chromosome. Accompanied by a mysterious government agent, a brilliant young geneticist and his pet monkey, Ampersand, Yorick travels the world in search of his lost love and the answer to why he’s the last man on earth. Matthew Federman and Stephen Scaia (‘Human Target,’ ‘Warehouse 13’ ‘Jericho’) penned the film’s screenplay.

Trachtenberg will make his feature film debut with the project. He caught the attention of the suits in Hollywood after creating the short fan film ‘Portal: No Escape.’ ‘Y The Last Man’ will be produced by JC Spink, Chris Bender and David Goyer, with Michael Disco and David Neustadter overseeing for New Line.
