Czech Comedy WOMEN IN TEMPTATION Getting English-Language Remake

2010 comedy to receive UK-set remake.

Screen Daily is reporting that Bedlam Productions, one of the UK-based production companies behind Oscar-winner ‘The King’s Speech,’ has acquired the rights for an English-language remake of the Czech comedy ‘Women In Temptation.’

Directed by Jirí Vejdelek, the 2010 original topped the Czech box office, out grossing Hollywood films like including ‘Avatar’, ‘Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1’ and ‘Inception.’

The story revolves around the romantic adventures of three generations of women from the same family: Helena (Lenka Vlasáková), a marriage guidance counsellor who is abandoned by her husband for a younger woman; her daughter, Laura (Veronika Kubarová), who is struggling to avoid the pitfalls of first love, and her mother Vilma (Eliska Balzerová), whose quirky views on life seem totally out of place.

Bedlam’s Gareth Ellis-Unwin told the site, “I was blown away by how the film was laugh-out-loud funny, sensitive and touching. It has a very sophisticated tone and had me in stitches until the end of the second act, when the story takes a more dramatic turn.”: “I was blown away by how the film was laugh-out-loud funny, sensitive and touching.
