Christopher McQuarrie Tackling Adaptation of British Miniseries UNFORGIVEN

Will write, direct and produce the long-in-development adaptation.

Mike Fleming over at Deadline is hearing that ‘Jack Reacher’ writer/director Christopher McQuarrie is stepping behind the camera for a feature adaptation of the award-winning 2009 UTV miniseries ‘Unforgiven.’

Directed by David Evans from a script by Sally Wainwright, the three-part series told the story of Ruth Slater (played by Suranne Jones) who has just been released from prison after serving 15 years for the murder of two policemen. Attempting to reunite with her troubled younger sister and rebuild her life as a law-abiding citizen, Ruth unwittingly becomes a target for revenge.

In addition to writing and directing, McQuarrie will produce the adaptation with Graham King of GK Films. Colin Vaines and Ken Kamins will serve as executive producers alongside Nicola Shindler of Red Production Company and Wainwright, who is producing through her Sparkhouse Productions banner.

While McQuarrie is currently set to direct ‘Mission: Impossible 5’ next, it is possible that ‘Unforgiven’ will take precedence.
