Christoph Waltz Circles TARZAN Villain Role

Emma Stone and Margot Robbie in mix for Jane role.

Variety is reporting that the always-excellent Christoph Waltz (‘Django Unchained,’ ‘Inglourious Basterds’) has entered into talks to join the cast of the upcoming reboot of the Edgar Rice Burroughs classic ‘Tarzan.’

David Yates is attached to direct with Alexander Skarsgård (‘True Blood,’ ‘The East’) on board to play the King of the Jungle. Waltz would be playing Captain Rom, a Belgian soldier that crosses paths with the famous “ape man.”

The trade’s sources are hearing that Margot Robbie (‘The Wolf of Wall Street,’ ‘About Time’) and Emma Stone (‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2,’ ‘The Help’) are among the actresses being considered for the role of Tarzan’s love interest, Jane Porter.

Production is expected to kick off next summer with Jerry Weintraub, Alan Riche, Mike Richardson and Yates executive producing. Numerous scribes worked on the script including John August, Marianne Wibberley and, most recently, Adam Cozad.
