Christina Applegate to Join Ed Helms for VACATION

Actress in talks for sequel/reboot of the 80s comedy franchise.

Christina Applegate (‘Anchorman: The Legend Continues,’ ‘Hall Pass’) is said to be in talks to join Ed Helms (‘The Hangover III’) on the cast of John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein’s ‘Vacation.’

Scripted by Daley and Goldstein, the film is a sequel/reboot of the ‘National Lampoon’s Vacation’ film series, and sees Helms playing Rusty Griswold, the son of Clark Griswold (Chevy Chase’s character in the original series), and will chronicle Rusty’s experiences and misadventures with his own family as he takes them on a road trip similar to the one he and his parents and sister took when he was young.

According to THR, Applegate would be playing Rusty’s “strong-willed” wife, who may be “losing interest” in her husband.

Chase and Beverly D’Angelo, who started the franchise 30 years ago, are in early talks to reprise their roles. Their roles are expected to be small with Rusty making a pit stop in his trip to visit his parents.

Production on ‘Vacation’ is expected to kick off in June, in New Mexico and Atlanta.
